Final Rule CY 2022 made significant changes to the PDGM Comorbidity Adjustment Subgroups. The increase of subgroups under the low adjustment has increased from 13 to 30 subgroups (57% increase) and the high comorbidity adjustment interactions increased from 31 to 87 subgroups (64% increase). What does this mean for coding? It means that many more codes could yield payment adjustments and coding needs to be accurate to receive appropriate reimbursement and avoid upcoding.
