Hearts for Home Care Day in Annapolis

Maryland children and adults with medical disabilities are facing a crisis in access to home nursing care. Shifts are going unfilled, nurses are leaving for better pay elsewhere, and the families of Maryland's most medically fragile citizens are left to pick up the pieces. Maryland can do better. It must to better.

On February 14, we are going together to Annapolis to teach our legislators what home care is, how important home care is to our lives and to ask them to increase reimbursement for skilled home care nursing. If we are brave and share our stories, we can get better pay for home care nurses and ensure that the people who need home health care can reliably get all of the hours their doctors have prescribed. You've always been an advocate. Join us in Annapolis to take it to the next level.

  • Invited: Everyone who cares about home care -- People with disabilities, their families, their friends, their teachers, their doctors, home care nurses and people who work in home care provider agencies.

  • Date: February 14, 2019, 10:00 - 4:00 It's ok if you can only join for part of the day.

  • Location: Annapolis, meet at 49 West Coffeehouse (49 West Street, Annapolis) for our kickoff meeting at 10am.  BAYADA Home Health Care is sponsoring coffee for everyone!

  • Parking: Ideally, park in Gotts Court Garage (25 Northwest Street; alternate entrance: 25 Calvert Street) or on the circular lot behind the Annapolis Visitor Center for standard or handicapped parking. If they’re full, the Noah Hillman Garage (150 Gorman St) is also a good option but requires an uphill walk to get to 49 West Coffeehouse.

Make An Appointment With Your Legislator

  • Click here for a list of legislators by district. You can also click “Who Represents Me?” in the top right corner of that page and provide your address to find your legislators.
  • Email a meeting request for February 14 to your legislator. Include your name, employer and state that you either work or live in their district. State that you would like to take a few minutes to share some information on home care that you feel will be helpful to them.  If there is a specific bill you would like to discuss, that should be included as well.

If you would like MNCHA to make the appointment for you, let us know!  If you are not sure who your legislators are, please send your home and work addresses to dseek@mncha.org and we will look them up for you.

Click here to register for this free event.

After you have made an appointment, email MNCHA the name of the Delegate or Senator you are meeting and the time of the appointment. If you would like someone to accompany you, please indicate this in the email as well.

It is important that our collective homecare voices are heard and we cannot do this without you, the MNCHA membership.

Be sure to continue to build your relationship with these decision-makers when you join us for Legislative Day on March 12!

Wear comfortable, but professional walking shoes as Annapolis is largely paved in brick and cobblestone. Make sure you have your state-issued ID for security and bring plenty of business cards! We are expecting several other advocacy groups in Annapolis, so arriving early to park is a great idea if possible.
