If you ask any one of your management staff who were working in home care on August 5, 1997 what happened on that date, most would tell you it was one of the worst times in the history of home care – the Balanced Budget Act went into effect. Over one-third of all agencies were forced to close and home care lost 50% of its projected revenue as our industry moved from pay per visit to episodic payments. The agencies that did not survive did not move quickly enough.


Value-based purchasing is just as serious and has the potential of being just as destructive. You have to pay attention! Why? Because nine states were chosen to test out the model and you, unfortunately, are in Maryland  which is one of the nine states. CMS has set your 2015 outcomes as your base year (you can’t change it) and 2016 will be your comparative year. If your scores don’t improve in 2016, you have the potential of losing up to 3% of revenues in 2018 and possibly 8% by 2020. This is serious.


Fazzi has done extensive research on what is going to happen, why, what the implications are to your agency, and what you should do about them. The session is free and includes handouts and strategies. The focus is on Maryland  agencies. The goal is to give everyone in attendance a clear sense of realities, implications, and strategies.
